Have you considered selling your art online? Quite a few years ago I posted some of my artwork online to see what would happen. At the least it was a way to put myself out there as an artist/photographer, the added bonus it might end up selling my art online. Working full time and other situations meant that I didn’t have a lot of time to devote to the activity and it slipped by the way side. What is my point you may ask? Or your response is “So”. My point I guess is this “You can sell your art online, without trying – you may not sell a lot of it though.
I started selling on zazzle at the time.
Most have heard of sites like Zazzle and imagekind and the myriad of other sites with similar services. You need only to go and search on google. I set up a Zazzle store many years ago. It seems a sensible option as my artwork was digital.
Things were quiet, there was not a lot of activity happening and NO SALES! The enthusiasm wained and the researching started. How hard is it to sell your art online? Many would say very! People will stumble upon your work, and yes they may like it and sometimes buy it! Yet the volume of sales was nothing to get excited about.
I never promoted my artwork until recently. To my surprise discovered more emails in my in box telling me I have sold something!
To sum, things up in case I’ve not been direct; after all this is the first serious post I’ve posted on my own site.
In simple point form!
It is possible to sell your art online. Yet it’s not as simple as uploading your work in digital format, there are other things to consider.
Don’t expect immediate results. Everything takes time, as an artist you know what the creative process is like. Some days it hits you and you are so passionate about the project at hand. Remember how long it has taken to develop your style and technique. The marketing process is the same.
It’s not all about a presence on the web. It’s a big world out there, over 7 billion people in fact! It can be difficult to find some brick and mortar businesses in your own town. Tell people how to find you and connect with the both online and in the real world.
I will expand on these points in further blog posts, in the meantime don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
